Krandall Diamond

Krandall Diamond

Weighing in at 40 carat, this golden yellow, cushion-shaped diamond belonged to Sidney Krandall. At the time, it was an unusual shape for a cushion shape with 114 facets (56 on the girdle). We come a long way since then. Our Sirius Star® Cushion features 116 inclined facets! Mr. Krandall’s father originally purchased the diamond around 1934 (about the time the American Gem Society was established) from the London dealer, Oyster David who alleged it has been part of the collection of Catherine the Great.

It is believed to have been bequeathed to the Smithsonian along with the rest of the Krandall collection of gems.
