The Blue Empress is a spectacular 14 carat perfectly symmetrical pear-shaped, fancy vivid blue diamond. The most distinguishing feature of the diamond is its perfect symmetrical shape.
it was mined at the Premier Diamond Mine in South Africa and was purchased from De Beers by the Steinmetz Group of Geneva, a leading diamond specialist. The clarity of the diamond is not known, however it is believed that the ‘Empress’ in its name refers to the exceptional quality of the diamond. It is a relatively recent find and was first offered for sale by London’s Harrods in 2003 for £10 million.
The diamond was cut and polished by the Steinmetz Group one of the leading and most respected diamond cutting companies in the world. According to their website, the Blue Empress was masterfully cut and polished by world-renowned master diamond cutter Matis Vitrol, considered to be one of the best cutters in the world, who was also responsible for the creation of the 203.04 carat “Millennium Star”.
Steinmetz commissioned the design of the Blue Empress Diamond Necklace to Los Angeles-based designer Christian Tse. This exquisitely crafted necklace, made of 18k white gold is set along its length by round brilliants. The 14 carat Blue Empress is set as the centerpiece of a pendant to this necklace. The Blue Empress is surrounded by a single layer of round brilliants, almost of the same size as the white diamonds set in the necklace.
On the list of known famous blue diamonds in the world, the Blue Empress diamond currently occupies the 17th position.
